What's Really In Your Peanut Butter?

Nothing takes us back to childhood like a perfectly made peanut butter and jelly sandwich. If we were really lucky, our mom would cut off the crust and add a little extra peanut butter. After a long day of playing outside, the taste of that creamy peanut butter goodness hit the spot like nothing else would.

These days, we still enjoy a good PB&J ourselves from time to time, but we really love seeing the look on our kids faces when we share our love of this amazing comfort food with them. We love that we can share the same experiences with them that our parents shared with us.

After we had our kids, however, we started to take a closer look at the foods that we were eating and the foods that we were feeding our children. After all, not only do we want them to be as healthy as possible, but we also want to be healthy so we can keep up with them while they are young and crazy!

We knew that there were quite a few processed foods that we needed to stop eating, but what we didn't realize is how many staples we had been eating our entire lives that were not at all what we thought they were.

Guess what one of the most surprising foods was? Yep, you guessed it. Our beloved peanut butter!

For some reason, we assumed that peanut butter contained...well...peanuts. Sounds logical, right? Boy were we wrong! It turns out that our favorite childhood food is also one of the most heavily processed and chemical laden foods that exists! 

Who would've known?!?!

So what's really in that peanut butter we've been eating our entire lives? Well, here is a list of ingredients in one of the biggest and most well known peanut butter brands in the world:

MADE FROM ROASTED PEANUTS AND SUGAR, CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF: MOLASSES, FULLY HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OILS (RAPESEED AND SOYBEAN), MONO AND DIGLYCERIDES,SALT

Um, excuse us while we gag a little. Full hydrogenated vegetable oils? No thank you. And we really don't need any added table sugar in our diets. No, we prefer that our foods contain just that...food. If we can't pronounce it or don't know what it is, we probably don't need to be eating it.

In contrast to the ingredients listed above, here is a complete list of ingredients used in Nut Butter Nation peanut butter. And by complete, we mean the combined ingredients used in ALL 4 FLAVORS:
